Air Festival FAQs
Bournemouth Air Festival: questions we get asked
Our handy guide to THE best Bournemouth Air Festival experience at Urban Reef.
Q: Can we see the planes?
A: You most certainly can. We are right in the flight path as the planes hug the coast. You’ll get a cracking view. Just keep looking up.
Q: Are you too busy to enjoy the experience?
A: No. Actually day times over the weekend are just like a normal sunny day for us with people enjoying the atmosphere. Busy days on the beach are what we are good at. We do get very busy in the evening from around 6pm Friday and Saturday for the concerts outside, but that’s part of the fun and the atmosphere is incredible.
Q: Can I book a table?
A: In the day time you don’t need to. Just turn up for food from 8am until 5pm. In the evening all our tables in the restaurant are now booked for Friday and Saturday after 6pm. Food is still available downstairs from the Urban Reef BBQ and The Wood Oven all day to 10pm.
Q: What time are you open?
A: Urban Reef is open 8am to 11pm. The Wood Oven will be open from 10am to 10pm.
Q: Where are the nearest toilets?
A: This is important. Please use the PUBLIC TOILETS located in the Overstrand to the right of Sorted Surf shop. In the evening our upstairs toilets will be reserved for restaurant diners only. We only have one toilet for the bar and it will be busy so the public loos will be much quicker.
Q: I’ve booked a table, where do I go, do I have to queue?
A: Come to the main entrance next to the Urban Reef sign on the left of the building. We’ll meet you there and whisk you upstairs pronto.
Q: Do you have extra bars open?
A: Yes, we’ll have two extra bars on the deck areas of Urban Reef and the Wood Oven serving just beer and wine. The bar inside Urban Reef will offer a wider selection of drinks. At the Wood Oven we’ll have a fast lane for people just wanting beer. It’s to the right of the main queue.
Q: Are you running a BBQ?
A: Yes, we’ll have our usual BBQ running from 12 noon to 10pm. Perfect to take food away and enjoy on the sand gazing at the sky.
Q: Are you serving food at Urban Reef?
A: Of course. Heaps of it. We are open for breakfast from 8am and we’ll serve food downstairs in the cafe until 5pm. After that time you can get food from the BBQ or The Wood Oven. The Restaurant is also open for pre-bookings only.
Q: What is the menu at the Wood Oven?
A: We’re serving a trimmed down menu at the Wood Oven over the weekend, so we can be as speedy as possible. We’ll be offering the following pizzas:
– Margherita (v)
– Urban Guild
– Roasted (v)
Q: Is the Wood Oven offering delivery?
A: We will not be delivering on Friday 19th or Saturday 21st August because we’ll be focusing entirely on you lovely people standing right in front of us.
Q: Any other advice?
A: Well, yes actually. One thing. If you need a little break from the bonkers hectic nature of the seafront do take a wander up Sea Road and just past the traffic lights on the left you’ll find Urban Beach. A calm oasis during the day since the crowds are on the seafront. You can still hear the roar of the planes, but service is more relaxed and quiet. Worth a look. If you in Poole or plane spotting from Alum Chine or Branksome Chine you’ll find Jenkins & Sons a similar haven of calmness and deliciousness.
Q: Got any info about the event, flight times, where to park, disabled access, etc?
A: Best to visit the official Bournemouth Air Festival website for all these details. We can tell you that the Red Arrows displays are on at 3:45pm each day 🙂 x
